Inhalt des Vortrags: The endoplasmic reticulum (ER), a major membrane-bound organelle of eukaryotic cells, ensures diverse functions such as lipid synthesis, protein synthesis and folding, calcium storage, etc. The ER has a network architecture spreading throughout the cytosol, and is in physical contact with other organelles such as mitochondria, endosomes/lysosomes, autophagic structures, peroxisomes, lipid droplets, and the plasma membrane. These contacts, which do not lead to organelle fusion, are named membrane contact sites. They are scaffolded by protein bridges connecting the two membranes and involving protein–membrane and protein–protein interactions. Using ER-endosome and ER-lipid droplet contacts as examples, I will discuss how contacts are built, their role in lipid transport , and how they are regulated.
