Vortrag von Thomas Schrader

Vortragstitel: "Molecular Tweezers - tailored materials for biomedical applications"
Anlass: GDCh-Kolloquium
Host: Andreas Hennig
Beginn: 30.05.2023 - 17:00 Uhr
Ort: CellNanOs, 38/201

Über den Vortragenden: Thomas Schrader forscht an der Universität Duisburg Essen, Institut für Organische Chemie.

Inhalt des Vortrags: Until today, we are threatened by diseases for which there is virtually no cure – like Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s and emerging viruses such as SARS-CoV-2. Medical therapies must go entirely new roads for innovative solutions with minimal side effects.

The lecture presents a new class of supramolecular drug molecules, which may offer such a solution for the above-mentioned diseases. It presents the synthetic access to tailored tweezer materials, elucidates their supramolecular mechanism and explains their specific interaction with proteins and viral membranes. The story begins with basic science and ends with highly promising animal experiments – hopefully on the way to clinical trial.
