In recent decades, there has been a sharp decline in the biodiversity of plants and insects in open landscapes in Central Europe. In order to promote pollinating insects in the city of Osnabrück, the Vegetation Ecology and Botany Working Group at Osnabrück University of Applied Sciences has been working with the Osnabrück Bee Alliance since 2014 to develop various seed mixtures containing native wild plants with the aim of establishing species-rich and flower-rich vegetation on green spaces and green roofs. In cooperation with the city of Osnabrück as part of the OSNAtürlich project, further flowering areas are to be created in the urban area and the management of existing areas optimised. Various examples clearly show that it is possible to promote flower-visiting insects through such measures.
